I decided to splash out on this comparatively expensive feeder because we have purchased many cheaper bird feeders in the past and had to replace them due to the them breaking, corroding or being difficult to clean. So far I’m glad glad I dug into my virtual pockets and spent more on this one. It is well made and well designed, drains well, is easy to clean, and, being made from stainless steel, should last a very long time, saving us money in the long run.

EDIT 2: PROVIDE contacted me about improving their design. I was totally shocked that any Amazon seller might be that keen, but they were. Many discussions followed, and they proposed (and tested) a few variations, all intended to resolve the “loose connection” of the stainless steel inserts to the plastic tube that other customers have complained about. Then they sent me some prototypes to test. After 6 months, NONE of the revised designs have failed in any way. All remain “as good as new”. And their final design choice will be even more robust.I have squirrels (red ones!) and pine martens climbing on these things, even “bouncing” them off the small branch they hang from. Despite falling 3 feet to the ground, none have even come undone, never mind broken.Furthermore, the stainless steel has proven top quality too, remaining bright and rust-free despite the bird poo all over the top. None of the quick-lock ends have ever detached unexpectedly, and the fastening to the plastic tube is now plenty robust, such that early unexpected detachment should simply never happen. These feeders are the most popular with the birds – mostly Goldfinches, Siskins, Great Tits and Chaffinches. I fill them all with sunflower hearts, but they always run out before the other alternative feeder at the main location. (The photos show a secondary location just to prove my squirrel claim). That bottom ring lets the chaffinches take part, instead of having to wait for the Goldfinches to discard seed to the ground for them to scavenge. Because the peg perches are a little too small and awkward for them otherwise. It is such a great idea it is worth buying just for this feature. For the price, these are BY FAR the best bird feeder you could buy. Stainless steel is durable, manufacturing quality is now top notch, and if you do have a problem, there is a 6 month replacement policy. The ring at the bottom allows larger birds like chaffinches (and even robins!) to get at the seed too. And if (like me) you get squirrels and pine martens climbing on them to feed, they won’t break anything either.I have upgraded this from 3 stars to 5 stars, as I have been mightily impressed with the response of the seller, AND by the quality of the design and materials.Lastly, one of my pics is of a Goldfinch that got his head stuck. It was entirely my fault – I had not cleaned out the accumulating debris at the bottom. And my local birds are so keen for sunflower hearts, they will reach in to get at the very last scrap morsels in the bottom. The resulting “hardened powder gunge” formed a wedge that meant this poor bird could not get his head out. He was flapping wildly, but in vain.I put on some cotton gloves, gently held his wings and the tube, and slowly unscrewed the bottom closer. He was still stuck, but when I prised the gunge loose with one finger, he literally took off in mid air, no harm done. I was greatly relieved my own stupidity in not cleaning the feeder had not caused more harm. This is NOT a design fault. It was purely my failure to clean out the debris that caused the trap. Plus, my allowing the feeder to become so empty that this bird overextended to reach the last seeds. It has only happened once. The other reason for that pic, is that this was one of the revised prototypes. You can see the rivet fastening holding the bottom insert into the tube, instead of the original clinching method. I can attest that the plastic tube has to break, before that rivet will let go. Witness the squirrel and pine marten hanging from that ring, even “bouncing” the feeder off the branch. I have found it (intact) on the ground several times. But it didn’t even open on landing, never mind break.(You don’t need to read the rest, but I’ll leave it here for posterity.)EDIT: I received a response from PROVIDE the day after my original review posted. They offered a full refund because they thought I wasn’t happy. They reminded me the feeder is covered by a 6 month warranty, so if it disassembles as feared (and others have experienced) then they will replace it.I remain convinced that the small mod, adding screws or bolts to improve the two weak joints top and bottom of the plastic tube, will make this the best feeder I have ever used.Meanwhile, I actually broke a drill bit trying to get through the stainless steel. That means they’ve used top grade material, for it to be that hard. They have also promised a future design improvement, that fully resolves this problem. That’s top class service, far above what I’d expect. Some reviewers have hammered this product with one star because “the bottom fell off”.I have no doubt they are right. It is a shame, since the materials used and the design itself seems robust enough. But the way the metal ends are fastened to the plastic tube is brainless, building in a weak failure point that is only a matter of time before it lets go, long before the feeder is “end of life”.I bought a stainless steel one anyway, because my feeders are supporting about 100 local birds (very rural, no other feeders near). Worse than Heathrow, as birds jostle for landing rights. Durability thus matters. And I figured I could deal with the weak joints before they fail. I have modified most of my feeders in some way or another. The metal parts are decently heavy gauge. BUT. Both the top cover and bottom perching ring are secured by a three-prong screw fit onto a matching metal insert. That insert is barely fixed to the plastic tube. There are three “cinch points” where the metal and plastic have been crimped together. It holds until it fails, and mileage will vary. But it is deeply unimpressive – my feeder shows barely 1mm of deformation of the metal, and the plastic is ready to slide off from the get go.The bottom ring is fairly heavy (and has all the seed above pushing down on it), so I cannot imagine that joining mechanism will last very long. Worse yet is that the top fastening carries all of that same weight, plus a bit more (the plastic tube and feeding perches).I bought one anyway, because I believe I can adapt it easily and effectively. I plan to drill two diametrally opposed holes at each end, through both the plastic tube and the metal insert. Then simply add a stainless steel screw (or possibly bolts – but I have screws available) into each hole to lock the insert and tube together far more robustly than the weak cinching it was originally made with. For even greater security, drill three fastenings each end – but two will be enough. The failures others describe are because the small deformation where the metal distorts against the plastic is very easy for the plastic to escape from – it only has to slide, because the dent in the metal is not large at all. However, with the mod, the plastic will not be able to tear past even the smallest metal screw (or bolt, if you prefer), forming a permanent joint that matches the durability of the rest of the feeder.I would say DO NOT invest in this feeder unless you are prepared to make this small modification. Drilling 4 holes and tapping in 4 small stainless screws is probably ten minutes work at most. The functionality of the feeder will not be affected in any way, and it will avoid the inevitable heartache of this feeder coming apart.Especially if you have squirrels and pine martens that raid the feeder – their weight will pull the weak joint apart instantly.I’ve given it three stars because the materials and build is very worthy. If they had chosen a decent jointing method between the metal inserts and plastic tube it would be 5 stars easily. It feels like one of the highest quality feeders I’ve ever seen. Except it will come apart quickly, unless you improve the weak joints.

This is quite a stylish and sturdy bird feeder which is easy to fill and clean. Only thing is it may cost me a fortune in seed as the birds love it

I have used this for a few weeks now and every time I fill it up, all the birds in the neighbourhood are delighted. I am a keen amateur bird photographer and this gives me the perfect platform to practice my hobby. The deisgn is very easy to refill, separating from the top with a twist and reattaching once full. I like that the birds have different perches to use and allows access to several birds at a time.So far no complaints and with the ease of use, would definitely recommend.

It’s only been up a week so it’s early days. I bought it to replace a feeder with plastic ports that had been chewed to bits by squirrels. I chose it because it was metal, had plenty of ports, was a good size and would hopefully be suitable for sparrows on the lower rim as well as finches and tits on the upper round metal perches. The tits arrived by the end of the first day and it’s now being used constantly by blue/coal/great tits and green/gold/chaffinches as well as robins. Sadly, no sparrows yet, despite it being in the same place as the old one and next to one of their roosting areas. They liked the plastic porches on the old feeder, and although I knew they wouldn’t like the round metal perches I thought they’d be OK on the lower rim. I’ve glued a couple of ring perches on in case they’d try those, and they may still come around; they’re very shy here due to hawks (and they do have alternatives) but I think the colour and shape of perches is important. No big birds have tackled it yet, and the squirrels have eyed it up but not attacked. An update after a month: this feeder is hugely popular with tits, finches, robins and buntings, and at times has queues of birds waiting to use it. The sparrows here are very cautious and not as aerobatic as the other species. They spent several weeks as a flock sitting watching other birds use the feeder, fluttering close to it but not landing. They’ve only just started using it, and the original perches are perfectly fine for them, but they still prefer to watch rather than feed. Blackbirds are also flying up to it and grabbing seeds but not landing. Squirrels have found it; they stand on the base and hold onto the higher perches, as if they were riding a scooter. They haven’t damaged it and they don’t take too much food. The seed stays dry in it and it’s easy to fill. I’m very happy with it and would recommend it.Final update – the squirrels and rooks attacked it with such force that the bottom fell off, and despite my best efforts to fix it I can’t get it to stay on now. The feeder was too popular for its own good. I’d still recommend it to anyone who can keep the larger/smarter creatures off.

Upon opening the box, the appearance of a quality item becomes obvious, nice to handle, good to look at. Feels substantial and should last. Also surprisingly bigger than expected, so hope the birds like the dining experience

I purchased this for my elderly Dad who enjoys watching the birds. I was purchasing many of the cheaper plastic ones only to find the squirrels chewed through them. I bought this and l gave to say l am impressed. It looks nice, is easy to refill and we have had good laughs watching the squirrel spin from the bottom. There has been no chewing through the ports as it is designed with stainless steel. My only criticism is we have had issues with the perching rods. However to my amazement this company is willing to help. I absolutely recommend spending more on this bird feeder and looking at their website. It’s very informative. 10/10 for being a great company striving to get the best product.

  9. Doberwoman

This is the best feeder I have had , the other ones cannot be cleaned properly , food is always trapped. This one you can clean the entire thing . Well worth getting if you like birds .

Look great! I’ve recently had my garden landscaped and the birds stopped coming so I can’t comment on its ease of use etc but I’m hoping that once word gets out that my seeds are back they’ll *ahem* flock to my garden, hahaha… I’ll see myself out
