Super quiet. Easy to clean.

Great filter for fish who like fast flo2ing water… not so great for slower fish or those with big fins such as Betta.

What is there not to like? Every time I clean it there’s not a morsel of debris inside the filter. The whole thing is as sparkling as the turtle tank itself. It seems the filter ingeniously manages to shift all the debris to the bottom of the tank, beneath the rocks and hidden away. When I clean the tank, (more often than previously now that I’ve bought this cracking filter), it is a saving grace to see that all that muck has been tucked safely away. The stench from the heap is horrendous and its colour a grey/brown pop shade. It looks not unlike really the hazy natural looking colour of the water in the tank, which changed dramatically when I set the tank up with dazzling new lights the same time as I replaced the filter. The hazy light effect took a day or so to gain full effect. Now it is amazing. You simply cannot see through the murk like haze in my six foot tank, making my very own tank set up an individual and original masterpiece. My next purchase is going to be aquarium freshener. Several of my friends hinted at this final touch, so that my two yellow belly sliders have a real home from home with finishing touches. My best friend (female) suggested maybe two or three fresheners so that they can be located at different points in my perfect tank. I’m so happy. The only thing to hinder my ecstatic euphoria is a feeling of constant sickness, and indeed, vomitting at least six to seven times daily, with very loose diarrhea. It could be that I’m still getting over excited each time I marvel at this perfect abyss of tranquility through to the inside the glass tank. Long live my filter and all of its delights. And sweet dreams to my excited turtles who are either banging the tanks glass and staring longingly at me, or asleep at the far end of the tank away from their rockery.

I recently bought the Stingray 15 for my 80 litre aquarium. Very happy with it so far – it’s so much quieter and smaller than my previous semi-submerged filter, so my goldfish have more space to swim around and I’m not tortured by the sound of running water anymore. The water jet from the filter is incredibly strong – I managed to make a whirlpool in the tank! The water flow was too strong for the fish to swim well (and they’re big fatties!) and they were so stressed out. Then I read a few more reviews on the Stringray models and the trick is to turn the outlet nozzle towards the glass behind the filter. The water hits the glass, then spreads throughout the tank more slowly and evenly. No more super-strong water blaster hitting the sides to create whirlpools! I haven’t had to clean the filter yet, but have noticed that dirt/poo collects towards the front of the tank now and is much easier to clean up; my old filter sent it all to the back where it got trapped between plants and made cleaning a real chore. I’m will very likely go with the Stingray 5 when I set up my 30 litre tank for tetras next year.

I ordered this due to my previous pump packing up.I wanted something that was effective yet quiet. A lot of people have said that this is a noisy pump, however it’s all down to how you place it.The first few days it was whisper quiet, yet after a week or so I noticed the noise started to increase.I took the top cover off of the pump, pulled the impeller out and inspected.I noticed that it was covered in plant matter and other debris. After removing all of this I decided to use the old trick of applying Vaseline around the magnet and the shaft that the impeller sits on.A month later and I keep having to check to see if it is even switched on!! Absolutely silent! Other than the odd sound of trickling water I honestly cannot believe how quite this thing is!It is powerful enough, quite enough and even small enough to have in most aquariums.I honestly cannot fault this product at all!

I am now on my 2nd one of these filters. The first I had for over 6 years and I have to say that I only had to replace it, because in the first couple of years I used to pull it out of the tank by pulling up the wire so I didnt get my hands wet! Long story short, I damaged the cable over time and ended up getting a brand new one. Lesson learnt! This filter is very capable of filtering out my 60 litre tropical fish tank. I have it in the corner of my tank and give it a clean out every 3-4 weeks or so. I have never needed to replace any of the parts inside, although after 6 years my last one was getting to the stage where it needed the foam bits replacing, but I needed a new filter anyway. Recommended.

I’ve got through 3 of these Iver the years as they are so good. I use 2 in my 1 tank and they keep the water very clean. They are silent unless they get air bubbles in them which can be easily shaken out

The media could not be loaded. Fantastic going to buy another 2 for my other tanks they work great good flow for the fish and my fish don’t get sucked into this one and keeps the tank water spotless

I have an 80 litre tank with two goldfish and it works very well. My key concern was whether it was quiet or not because the tank is in my eight year old daughter’s bedroom- and IT IS QUIET.I am no expert but one big TIP : MAKING SURE THE UNIT IS SWITCHED OFF AT THE MAINS :when placing/introducing the unit into the water, fully submerge it and turn it in all directions (you can slightly shake it too) so that ALL THE AIR IS REMOVED from inside the unit- this will prevent any slight motor noise… but to be honest: there isn’t any anyway! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- quiet, well made and easy to clean.
