This is the only sand I can find online that is the right size to add bulk and drainage to your potting mixes. This is smaller than pumice and larger then typically sand (probably .75-2mm, but total guess). The bag is quite small, but sand is heavy so not disappointed. Which the seller would offer larger sizes. But if you have been looking for true coarse sand that for indoor custom potting mixes, this is the size you need! You can stop looking now (unless you need a ton, haha). To clarify, adding typical beach sized sand or find sand does add heft to your soil but since it is so close in size to peat moss and coir bases, it doesn’t improve aeration and drainage. You need this slightly larger coarse sand if that’s what you are trying to achieve.Think about it like this. If you fill a jar with all same sized particles, like fine sand, and poor water in it. THen look how long, if at all, it takes for that water to “drain” through the sand and end up at the bottom. Now imagine putting small rocks in the same jar. They don’t compact and thus the water would have plenty of air pockets and almost fall directly to the bottom. This is what larger coarse sand does; adds air pockets for oxygen exchange (aeration) and drainage (preventing root rot).Of course, outside the above hypothetical, the other ingredients (coir, peat, etc.) do retain moisture needed, so with potting mixes we are looking for a balance of retention and drainage. Too much of either is bad (though IMO, it’s easier to address too much drainage than too much water retention–simply water/fertilize more or add some coir). Will try to add pictures later when on my personal laptop.Of course in a potting mix we want

Purchased for a diorama and ended up using for our Vday mailbox. Went on fine with hot glue even though there’s glue specifically formulated for this type of stuff. It was messy, but stuck well and was real sand. Loved the details.

Product is perfect and exactly what i needed. do not listen to everyone complaining about it being small, the order details STATES SAND it is exactly as described. those people are just mad they did not read the description before purchasing something.
Tiffany –
It’s sand, the amount was as listed. It’s good for mixing with soil.

Used this for a terrarium and the size/grit was what I was hoping for. Good for drainage and good value for money. Bonus that it has no added chemicals or nutrients for sensitive plants/root systems. Will be buying again for future projects.
Brady Reish –
This was perfect for my purpose, which was adding sand to my succulent soil. But, the bag was very small. It does list that it is 2lbs, so I should have realized!
Stephanie P –
Love this sand, it’s really perfect for what I use it for. However the bag is extremely small for the price.
Cat –
Used for the outside cigarette ashtray. Bought a small cute ceramic pot (for a plant) to use, so the sand was perfect.
